.43 Spanish Remington.

Hi gents,

Forgive this foolish question, but would it be feasable to rebore a .43 Spanish barrel to a .45/70?
A post a while ago talked about rebarreling but not reboring.

The Spanish case is wider below the bottleneck.  That is why these guys are usually rebarreled.  The new barrel will likely be heavier than the original military barrel and therefore more useful as a target or buffalo rifle.

Another option is to line the barrel with a 45 caliber rifle liner and then have it chambered to 45-70.  This way all the exterior dimensions and marking are left intact and for all practical purposes the rifle looks original from the exterior.

I have relined several 43 Egyptian and 43 Spanish Remington Rolling Blocks to 45-70 over the years and the only other work required is to modify the extractor for the 45-70 case rim.

This works out to be a cost effective option to rebarreling.

In a ballpark figure,,what can one ususal expect to pay for a egyptian or other rolling block mililtary rifle,,and what would be the appx cost of having a barrel re-lined ?

A most intersting idea,,to have a 'real deal' rolling block converted to a more 'friendly' round to buy components to feed it with.

Would there be any reason one could,,or should,,not use a re-lined barrel with hunting velocity rounds ?

If I go ahead with this depends on cost of relining- rechambering. Could I get a ballpark figure?
No one local will do it, any suggested gunsmiths?
