Hello:

I am getting ready to do some work on my Uberti Remington and need some information if someone could help me.
I plan on shortening the barrel to something like 4 3/4" or shorter.

1.   Is the front site soldered on or does it screw in?

2.   Is the Barrel Stud that holds up the Loading Lever soldered on or does it slide out? If  it slides out does it have a specific
      direction to be removed.

Thanks for any help.

Major 2

On Uberti's both are dove tail and tap out .... Pietta's are soldered in place in a pilot hole

I think Major 2 nailed it.  My Pietta had a hole drilled and the front sight pressed in.  Perhaps soldered, but I can't tell.  When I shortened my barrel (due to factory foul-up, NOT by choice - it's a long story and I believe the NEW Pietta folks wouldn't let one like mine out the door).  When I ordered the replacement sight from VTI, they asked if I wanted the Uberti type (dovetailed) or the Pietta type.  FOOLISHLY I got the Pietta type.  Dumb ... dumb ... dumb.  I figured (logically) that since I would have to cut the dovetail by hand, it would be easier to drill.

Well, in theory I was right.  In practice, well ...  I have a complete set of drill bits - fractional, alphabet, AND 1-80 numbered.  Not ONE was the right size, thanks to metrics.  >:(  I ended up drilling it , notching the sight (where it's in the barrel) and epoxying it in place.  The notches & epoxy have held so far (3 years) so I think I dodged the bullet on that one.

Worst part about it was that I also had to replace the loading lever catch and I DID have the foresight to buy both the Pietta type and the Uberti dovetail type.  I hand-cut the dovetail and, while it was CONSIDERABLY more work, it turned out easier!

Both the sight & loading lever catch are (barely) visible in this pic.

Thank you both for the information.

Now that I am sure how they come out I am ready to get started, hopefully in a week or two I should have me a new short barreled gunslinger.

Thanks again.

Even if your Uberti is an old one without the dovetail, replacing it with the newer dovetailed part is the only way to go.

You got that right, when I had to replace the missing front sight on my Navy Arms stainless Pietta 58, I had my gunsmith use a black Uberti dovetail sight.
