Since everyone else was putting up a new Avatar I thought I might as well also.  This is me at a local reenactment shooting my 44-40 Spencer.  Notice the glove on the left hand?  Boy can the barrel on this gun get hot!
I should have my article on "Reenacting with a Spencer" done soon.

Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a handsome, and well preserved body; but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out and loudly proclaiming...."WOW!... What a ride!"

Major,

Were there many Spencers in the field that day?  Or were you the only Spencer shooter?

I was the only one using a Spencer but we did have 2 original Sharps & Hankins and a few Sharps on the skirmish line.  I let some of my fellow reenactors try it and I think I am tempting them.  We may have more Spencers when they can gather up some extra money.
I went out skeet shooting today and picked up a bunch of 410 hulls to make into blanks for my Spencer.

I am only 57 but I think like I am 20.  Unfortunately my bones don't agree with me on that.

Terry, I share your age and your pain! I'll be 58 in November.

I've gotten on an exercise program 5 days a week that has made me feel MUCH better overall. I am not ready to go jogging, but I'm up for some long walks to trim down the waistline a bit. I only need to lose another 5 lb and I'll be at "fighting weight" again.

My wife and I are about through adopting two little ones - age 3 and 4, and that's going to make us stay in shape. I tell people, "Banjo playing is mandatory for the boy, but shooting is optional."  (HA - how could he resist black powder and loud noises?!?!?) I won't say that the kids are making us younger, but they are forcing us to become more active. I can hardly wait until "Bubbaroo" is old enough to go reenacting and to SASS events with me!!
