Thank you for the link. Interesting history!  I wonder how the earliest Henry cartridges kept from fouling the barrel with no lube groove?  Perhaps there was a groove in the heel?

The Ira Paine .44 Henry cartridge with a round ball is an interesting variation.  He was a nationally renowned  pistol shot champion back in those days.
