All gamey stuff aside, at what distance are you gentlemen sighting in your 56/50 carbines for general use?

I checked at 25 & 50 yds., but I also was able to hold all offhand shots in a good group on a silhouette at 100 yds.

I compete with mine in the NSSA at 50 and 100.

Howdy the Camp,

I went to the 100 yard range when the 25 yard was being used for a class.  (cowboy practice).  I tried raising the ladder sight with the lowest notch and I could not hit paper.  When I sat the ladder back down in the "closest range position", I put the next 8 on the paper with mostly scored hits and one in the ten ring!  It is one flat shooting rifle!!  Have fun!!!

I shoot an original at 50 & 100 yards with the ladder down.
With the ladder up and on 300 yd mark, it hits or is very near a steel plate at 320 yards

I was going to start doing the same with mine Ed.  I am going to start shooting with the 14th MS.  What bullet and load are you using?  I am trying a Lyman Spencer bullet with one large lube ring and about 35 grains of 3fg Goex.  Hoping to shoot it this week, but it has been raining cats and dogs in Houston this week.

Tommy,

You really should skirmish with your Spencer if you can. I skirmished this weekend at Centerburg, OH with my team the 2nd Kentucky Cav. We won a 2nd place repeater medal. My Spencer can hold its own agaist those damn Henrys any day! I shoot a Romano mold with one BIG lube groove, on top of 35gr. Goex 3F in a cut down 50-70 case. I can break clay and tile all day long at 50 and 100.

I see you have the Romano Walker and Keen Carbine from you picture.  How does that shoot?

Thanks Two Flints,

I have always admired Romano's work.  My father owns one of his 2nd model Maynards and it is beautiful.  Before the Armi-sport came out, I was saving up for one of his Spencer Rifles.

Tommy,

It drives tacks, just like my Spencer and Mod. 1 Maynard.

I believe Romano uses a 1 - 48" twist. The Armisport uses 1 - 22" I believe approx.

Appalachian Ed

My Romano Spencer rifle has a 1-36 Douglas barrel.
