Not an 1860, but an 1866

I have a Yellow Boy with 24-inch barrel on the way in .44 WCF, and sure look forward to shooting it. This will be my first toggle-link lever gun, and I just can hardly wait. I'll be running Starline brass with Goex or Hodgdon Pyro or 777 under a 200-grain MAV Big Lube slug. Sure wish they made these in .44 Russian to be closer to case size and ballistics of the original .44 Henry Rimfire, but, hey, life is full of compromises.

Hell-Er High Water

It's too bad that you didn't get it in 44 Special.  The carrier for the Cowboy 45 Special cartridge from the Smith Shop will work just fine with the 44 Russian cartridge in a 44 Special rifle.

I have one in my Cimarron M'73 44 Special and the 44 Russian cartridge feeds and performs great.

Something to think about for the future.

I had my Henry .44-40 chamber sleeved for .44 Spl.    My 66 is .44 spl., as are my Open Tops.  Will likely get carriers for both rifles to handle the .44 Russian.  Nice small rounds close to original and save on powder!

Last shoot I was, a guy who shall remain nameless (right  Quickfire ;) :D ) grabbed my .45lc by mistake and shot it by mistake. His BP .44 WCF went through it fine, other than it didn't group worth a darn :o That's when he realized he had the wrong gun

I'm converting my 45LC to 44 Henry Flat C.F. (44 Russian case Old West moulds 248 Grn Heeled bullet with the nose modified) and I think all  I'll need to do is change the angle of the carrier block instead of buying a new one, though that is a thought. It feeds them fine now, but the last cartridge kinda messes up.
Bootsie in Germany sent us pictures of his block that was modified from 44-40 by his gunsmithto use 44 Spcl.s and that is what the gunsmith did was modify the front angle so it would not lock up on the shorter cartridges.

Sorry Halfway Creek Charlie, misunderstanding: the pic I shared was of the carrier of my .44 Special Henry altered to reliably feed and shoot .44 Colt, i.e. stubbier cartridge with smaller rim. All the smith did was altering the angle. Now it works fine. If detail pics are needed just send PM.
He also converted my brass Henry from .44-40 to .44 Colt which included altering the carrier. Please PM if pics are required of the "optimized" carrier.
