Two Flints

Hello SSS,

Looking for help in trying to get that "correct" look of the 1870s.

Take a look below, and I'd appreciate your comments, good or bad, and maybe suggestions for how to make my persona "more correct."

Nice outfit Two Flints.
If you ever get to New Mexico stop by and we'll get those boots properly soaked and stained with horse sweat. ;)

I'd add a wild rag, but a good looking photograph.... ;D

You've definitely got 'the look' in your eye. I'd definitely agree to the kerchief, though. 'Somthing to keep the dust and rain off your neck.
Do you have some great jacket to go with it?
Those boots look awful clean ;) Do they have a hard sole?

Hi Bead Swinger,

Those aren't boots, they are Chiracahua Apache Moccasins made by Ottawa Creek Bill for me last year.

"This is a pair I just finished for Two Flints, they are the typical Chiricahua Mocassin that you see in many photographs of the era and also a couple of photos with white scouts wearing them. These are hand sewn brained tanned uppers, with shaped rawhide soles. If the tie strings look darker, thats because they were still wet from stretching when this photo was taken, about ten minutes ago. I'll be mailing these to Two Flints monday morning. This is the biggest mocassin I have made thus far, Two Flints wears a size 12E".  Bill    ;D ;D

Anyway, I'm still working on my persona...I have a ways to go yet.  Most of the comments have been "you look to clean," which is my next thing to deal with.  The mocs have a semi-hard sole/deer hide I believe.

Sent you a PM regarding the museum photos you want to post.

Get back to me on that or Email the photos and commentary with them to me.

Nice look - I'm not sure about the belt pouch or whatever that is, but if you have a period reference fine.

Understand your comment about: Most of the comments have been "you look to clean," that seems to be common to many of us, it takes time to get stuff appropriatly worn. I'd suggest you take up Harve Curry's offer and spend a week in New Mexico with his critters, in my experience one day alone will put about two months wear on your stuff. Seriously, find a horse and your problem will be solved.

James,

Thanks for your comments.  I expect to be making changes in the hopes of getting the look right. That first photo was posted in the hopes of being critiqued by others who have gone through the "process" before me.  It's a work in progress, and I know it, but most enjoyable.

I appreciate your comments.

Howdy Two Flints,
Those are some nice Apache moocasins. I couldn't see them so well in your first picture. I do remember seeing old photos of them. Today I was moving cattle in the Black Range Mountains and past by where the 9th Cav got into it with Victorio. I'll bet there was some of that foot wear there that day, 128 years ago. Today we ride 20 miles and get to go home, shower and do it again fresh the next day. They slept there in there moccasins with no socks.
