Hello SSS,

Can anyone please tell me something about the two bullets shown below listed in the NEI Handtools on-line catalog made from their "precision cast bullet molds"??  Do you use them?  How?  With what combination of primer, shells, powder, anything at all, if you use them for your Spencer, repro or original.

Thanks,

Two Flints

The bullet was designed by a friend of Larry Romano and made by Walt Melander (now deceased) at NEI. Larry Romano told me this. I know of one guy with this mould. I asked him once to buy some bullets but he never returned my message.  ???

The Lakota bullet is a modified Romano style bullet.  It has a hollow base in addition to the large lube groove.  The other one you selected is a copy of one of the original style bullets for the Spencer, in .52 caliber.  This is a bit oversize for the modern guns, and sizing it down does not help it a bit, as you lose lube capacity and distort the bullet.

If you are considering obtaining a bullet mould from NEI, I can heartily recommend them.  I have several, and they are excellent.  You pay the same for one made to your specs as one illustrated on their catalog pages.  Consider picking out a design that appeals to you and having them make it up in the weight and dimensions you wish.  They are very accoomodating people, and will do their level best to fill your needs.
