Anybody know how many rounds the .45 Schofield version holds?

Keep in mind that the Armisport Spencer in .45 Schofield had the same problems as the one in .44 Russian.  The were both prone to jamming.  The paddle extractors were never a good design.  The one they make in .44-40 has the Lane extractor and I haven't had any problems with jamming or extracting.

Gentlemen,

I appreciate your responses.  Thank you!

Edgy,

I've put a few hundred rounds through my .45 Schofield Spencers, I own two.  If you use a firm and steady movement of the action she won't jam...mine never has...any feeding problems were of my own doing.  My Spencer .45 Schofield is a nice fit with my S&W Schofields (also .45 Schofield cartridge).

Do you keep the two extractor paddles in you Schofield, or do you remove one?  I wonder why the 44 Russian one had so many problems and the 45 works without any problems?
Does anyone else have a 45 that works good or bad? I'd like to know.

I have an unaltered .45 S&W Spencer, and it has worked great from day one. Probably have near 2000 rounds thru it now.  Shot a clean match with it last month.  The .45s never had anywhere near the problems of the .44 Russians.  I believe that round was simply too short to work relliably in the Spencer action.

It helps if you have the right bullet.  I've found that a truncated cone feeds snot slick.

I also have a 56/50 Spencer, but prefer the .45 for CAS matchs, as the blade type extractors actualy give better ejection.  Timing on chamber reloads is a little more critical, but simply running the lever back until the block hits the retainer arm lines everything up just right.

Hi Major,

I've been shooting my .45 Schofield Spencers, as is, right out of the box; no alterations of any kind.  If it works OK, I don't change anything.  Fit and finish were excellent on both with the exception of my first Spencer, which had a small ding in the forearm, which I took care of.

Now, I have my original 56-56 that I just rebuilt and is ready for the firing line just as soon as I finish building a shooting vise for it with a long rope type trigger pull!

Wow you are expecting some kick arent ya?   ;D  I am guessing the 56/56 will have more recoil than the 56-50 which has plenty, so you will likely need that long rope.  Safe and fun shooting.  Deadeye.

Deadeye,

I'm not concerned with the "kick" so much as I am the end result from shooting my rebuilt Spencer. Hopefully, all the innards are set and in place the way they are supposed to be... Everything seems to be working OK, but why take chances!

Thanks Terry,

It's a work in progress.  Been told I look too clean!  I gotta work on that but its gonna be hard, my 4 year old John Deere Utility Tractor looks like it just came out of the showroom.

Next time I'll add my possible bag to my outfit (from my muzzleloading days).

Shot another match this weekend with the .45 Spencer.  Had a couple of handgun misses but the Spencer was smooth and clean.

Whats fun is there is always 2 or 3 folks who ask to try it out, so after the match I have a little Spencer clinic.  Fun to watch the folks fumble around the first few times.  But once they figger out the lever throw they smooth out pretty quick.
