I purchased this circa 1860's .36 cal. bullet mould awhile back, from an antique dealer. Stamped or engraved are the letters C.S.A. Confederate States of America? The dealer never saw one stamped with these letters, and thinks it may have been added by someone.
Anyone have any knowledge of this mould, & if they were ever marked this way?

Judging by the fact that the impression of the letters appears clean and does not mirror the surface pitting of the body of the mold, I'd say it was added later.
People would absolutely drool over it if it had the rare "CSA" marking, it would inflate the price tenfold.

Just my observation.

They weren't marked that way by the Confederacy - but they sure were by the makers of 'artifakes' back in the middle 1960's.

'Anything' so marked will add mystique and raise prices - even when it's known that it's most likely spurious, there's always someone who's ready to believe - and dealers know this.
