I don't reckon it would be a unapproved mod by SASS regs, since cowboys coulda done it with a file.
Seen it done a lot.  ;)

Front are we talking where you put the bullet in?  If so WHY all you'll do is cause the brass to swell there a little. And if its when it leaves the cyl WHY?? the bullet won't touch any way if you've opened up the cyl where the bullet drops thru..What will any of this gain you???? Loco

Loco:

I'm talkin' about breakin' the edge of the front face (the outside) of the cylinder.  NOT THE CHAMBERS!
That way them six-shooters holster a might easier.

But NOW the SASS site will open up!  I've read the rules.  It IS okay to do.  They call it a BEVEL.

Every single CAS shooter we have has the front of the cylinder rounded off.  We also round off the front of the ejector housing.  Sure saves on gun leather wear and all legal as I read the gun mod rules. One way I can tell a good gunsmithing job is whether this is done or not as part of the CAS job.  Now some shooters would not like to modify the appearance of their guns and they probably fall in the "look cooler" category and not interested in the competitive side of the sport.

From latest SASS Shooters Handbook:

REVOLVER CYLINDERS

• The front of the cylinder may be beveled.

MG, Don't think they know what your asking...lol
Yes you can break the edge of the chamber to make it easier to load. You can also polish the chambers to help in a fast reload and ejection. I had a very fine local gunsmith.... Huckleberry do this for me plus a very slick action job on my Schofields.

Bevelling the front of the cylinder is specifically allowed. !st Gen Colts routinely came with the front of the cylinder beveled, although it was not a simple conical bevel like one would achieve on a lathe. The bevel varied along the edge from flute to flute, with more bevel near the flutes and less in the middle between them. But bevelling is specifically allowed. Of course, if its a blued gun, you're going to have to reblue it. Stainless is no problem, just cut and polish.

REVOLVER CYLINDERS
• Centerfire and rimfire cylinders may have no less than five and no more than six chambers.
The front of the cylinder may be beveled.
• Unfluted cylinders may be fluted.
• Lead in grooves may be cut or extended.
• The revolver may be altered to allow the cylinder to spin in either direction.
That's bad business! How long do you think I'd stay in operation if it cost me money every time I pulled a job? If he'd pay me that much to stop robbing him, I'd stop robbing him.

Ya probably inherited every penny ya got!

Laredo Crockett

Yep. My OM Vaquero's are beveled like a Colt.

I get a kick out SASS rules...they will let you bevel your cylinders so it slides in and out easy and not markup your leather...but a bisley hammer is a NO NO...I have small hands and with bisley hammer it fits my hand for better control which make it SAFER and put me on a level playing field with large hand shooter.......................
