Hello all,

I used to buy 3-4 oz vet-tan straps from my supplier in Anchorage but they only carry belt weight, 6-7 oz, which is way too thick for what I need.  Can any of you direct me to a source.  At this time I really can't buy a whole side in the 3-4 oz range otherwise my problem would be solved.  Specifically I'm looking for either 3/4" wide or 1 1/2" wide.

Thanks,

You might want to give Tandy Leather a shot.  You'd have to buy a hide, or half hide and cut your own?
Another shot would be go to Google and type in "leather strapping" and see what comes up there.

Check out Siegel of CA. They have a sale going on now. I wanted to make a couple of sheaths so they had Horse veg tan pieces in various thicknesses for around $10-15 a piece so I got 2 (The total was $30 shipped). What arrived was 2 huge 3'x3' pieces of leather. They have thinner pieces as I recall.

Thanks to all who responded.  I decided to stop by a local fur shop, we have bunches up here in Alaska, to look for some linen thread.  Didn't find what I was looking for but did notice they were carrying some veg-tan sides.  Happened to ask if they sold parts and guess what, was able to buy 1/4 of a really nice 3 ounce side.  They even gave me the really nice part that'll have no waste at all.  So I'll just dig out my strap cutter and go to town tonight.

Thanks,
