I have tried to get an idea from Gary Granger when they might be ready to start taking orders.  No reply from him, so I am assuming things are in the earliest stages of planning.  Based upon the quality of the guns turned out by USFA thus far, I would expect the Remingtons to be equal to if not better.  Until they get further along in the planning and tooling up for the Remingtons, and until they are willing to impart such information, I dont think there will be much news coming out.  I do think USFA will be pleasantly surprised by the large numbers of people placing orders.  Since Hartford hasnt been making their Remingtons for a couple of years,  I bet there is a very large unfullfilled demand.

Safe shooting.  Deadeye.

I wrote USFA a few weeks ago asking for more infromation on the 1858 , they did write back saying for me to just keep checking their site ...it`s comming ...I want on the waiting list BAD.
This will be the Remmie I`ve been waiting for ......I don`t think there will be any disipointments.
I hope the conversion cylinders fit `em .

I would be willing to bet that the 1858s will come with conversion cylinders to match the percussion cylinder.  It wouldnt make any sense for them to let another company make money off of their creation.  IMHO   Safe shooting.  Deadeye.

They showed a prototype frame at the last SHOT Show and said "years". Don't get your hopes up for anything soon.  ;)

Sundance,,,,iv waited almost 5 years on a top shelf flintlock by world renown buildler,,,

just lately I had to put the issue forth to him,,,,that I either need the rifle,,or ,,,just un-do the deal.

Marshal Deadwood   * who is fairly patient, but may not have YEARS either ,,,,

Yep! I know the drill.

I wanted a Shiloh Sharps in the worst way, but I didn't want to wait 4-6 years. I got lucky and snagged one at a Gunshow in Las Vegas. I had a pedersoli Sharps, both were 45-70. My joy was short lived when I found that the Pedersoli out shot the Shiloh. I sold the Shiloh at the LasVegas Antique Gunshow the next fall. I did recuop my money, Was really impressed with the Pedersoli Sharps.  No wait and 1/3 the price and twice the shooter of THAT particular Shiloh.

Sorry you got a dud Forged frame Remy. I'm sure Taylors will make it right, but the frustration of the wait is more than understandable.

Halfway Creek,,,the folks at Taylors are super nice. I have NO customer complaints with them,,,,its the wait,,like you stated,,,the wait,, :o

Deadeye Don

Like most distributors of Italian made guns,  Taylors are at the mercy of Uberti.  In fact Taylors really never knows what is in a shipment from Uberti until it arrives.  Oh in addtion Uberti takes the month of August off so dont expect anything to come in during that month.    However,  without Uberti I think the CAS game would be over fast.   Safe shooting.  Deadeye.

Deadeye,,,I agree. While being human and wanting a 'David Copperfield' trick and pull'er outta the hat right now,,,its just not gonna be that way...

but,,the 'cowboy' shooting would be in a bind without Uberti...

Imagine how long we would wait  if the only two 'good' guns were USFA and Colt. Not speaking bad of them mind you,,but,,,they would be backlogged for not years but maybe Centuries !!!

Plus,, Uberit has made all the models available that the 'top shelf' companies just wont make.

I AM anxious to see USFA's 1858Rem...but ,,I'm looking at it as a 'maybe' gun before I expire from this life,,,,

I have as of late became quite taken with the Remingtions....

pssst?  has any of you pards handled a Hartford Armory ?  ,,,as costly as they are, they outta be good,,just never heard a 'review' of the Hartford guns ,,,

what say ya'll bout'm ?

Marshal Deadwood

Unless you can find one used,  you wont be finding any Hartford Armory guns new as they are not making them now.  Interesting that they are still listed on Taylors website.  Deadeye.

I had a couple of the Hartford Arms 1875's. They were very poor fit and finish. I had to do a lot of gunsmithing to make them even work. After I got them working right, I sold them to a friend who was happy to get them. I was happy too, because by then I had an attitude about them. I'll wait until USFA makes theirs and pick up one. Maybe one of each. I'd be more excited about the NMA than the 1875, but I'll probably need one of each.

I'm suprised to hear their making a NMA. I dont really see much room for improvement with that particular model. My Uberti is perfect as is. The 1875 makes sense as it would be nice to have a model without a hammer saftey, base pin release latch, or a color cased frame. But unless their priced competetivly I wouldnt imagine buying an USFA 1858 over a Uberti who I think pretty much nailed it.

Marshal Will Wingam

I would pay extra for good steel parts & screws, US made and the Remington name stamped on it. I may still shoot my Ubertis at the matches, but to have a really good one (or a pair) has a very real appeal to me. USFA does have a reputation for quality. I thought the HA's would be it but that wasn't the case.

Marshal Will,,,,im of the same notion. I would keep my Uberti as my 'down in the dirt' working Remington, but would love to have a 'top shelf' '58Rem.

I just hope it aint years before they are available.

I was at Shot this last Jan. and I spoke to the "big he bull" of USFA.. as I handled the two CNC machined NMA Prototypes.
one was just the frame the other frame further along with barrel attached.
The short version of this meeting is... "don't look for these this year or next...."

On another matter.. I now own one of the early Forged Framed conversions , this is the very gun pictured in Taylor's catalog & the one , first tested for the SASS monthly C C by Tuolomee Lawman.
I don't know if TL tweaked it in anyway ( he does not mention it in the article )
But it is flawless in function right out of the box... aside form a little bluing rub near the grip it is LNIB....
I'm actually an OT fan but this Remy conversion is a NICE shooter...
when planets align...do the deal !
