legality no... I got a lot of questions an indoor range where I was doing the aforementioned comparison test.
There were about 6-8 people shooting there and everyone ( all shooting auto loaders ) were very interested

What ?  were ?  who ? etc.. from about every one of them , definitely the most popular gun there that session.

Only comments I get with my Conversions is "What the H***?"  "Boy that's something" "Where do you get them?" and the one I love. "Do you mind if I shoot that once?" I tell them "No I don't mind, but once isn't enough.  Shoot the whole cylinder full"

In fact one morning at the local indoor range I was shooting Trail boss and there were 4 local officers of various dept's shooting too. It got kinda quiet.  As in, I'm the only one shooting, type Quiet, I glanced back over my Shoulder and they were all standing there watching me shoot. Then they all had to have a turn. Luckily I had two boxes of 44 Rem. C.F. with me.

Never had to explain myself in any other venue.....Yet.
I carry them in a breif case that has a combination type lock, that I can lock/unlock in a second if i need too, but I don't carry the brief case in arms reach and the bullets are not in the same place.

Even with the R &D or Kirst Convertors in the guns they are still replica's of a pre-1898 conversion pistol.

Dusty,

Yup, Arizona has really changed. I remember the "as long as the gun was in open view" days, but those days have gone.
Too many Yankee's movin' in! :-(

Charlie,at one time about ten years ago I had some 45/70 orig.trapdoor guns and i would also get the "Do you mind if I shoot that once?"the combo of BP and the trapdoor would really turn heads,I don't know if that would be the same today.I have had people tell me yes,the conversion cylinder is a part but when you put it in the gun the revolver is illegal, this is what sparked my question to Coffinmaker. I always thought the replica guns were non-guns,hence no FFl required. 3 am on a dirt road anywhere is not the time or place you want to pick to have a hassel about a revolver with a conversion cylinder,I agree Charlie! Dusty.

Well hopefully I'll not have to do the 3:00 Am Dirt road deal. I hope to be asleep in my bed where I'm supposed to be at that time of day...LOL

It is not an illegal gun. If it were they couldn't sell the conversion cylinders.
Like Coffinmaker says if you port the frame it's yours, but it IS legal for you to do that to your own gun without a FFL. Someone without a Gunsmithing/MFG FFL cannot Port a frame for you.
You don't need a FFL to own and carry or shoot a cartridge gun, hence the BP gun with the ConversionCylinder in it is a cartridge gun and legal for you to own, carry and shoot.

I do not take my conversion cylinders out of my conversions and replace them with the C & B cylinders to go to the range or to a shoot or hunting. There is no reason to do so I am allowed to own cartridge guns and BP guns.

I understand the reason for the question. If you get hassled by a police officer or Game officer that doesn't know the law or isn't sure of himself or herself,(the 3:00 A.M. thing) then just let them do what they have to do. Then you do what you have to do. Get a good lawyer. I guess I have never even thought about that or worried about it. If it ever happens, then I'll worry about it.

Charlie, what you have just said is what I thought the law is but I have had quite a few people tell me something else, they don't know the law and just want to get into a heated debate. You have put my mind at ease,thanks.Dusty. ;D
