Does anyone know even very roughly how many conversions were done to remington C&B revolvers back in the day? Thanks

Almost 5,000 NMA 44s were converted to .46 rimfire for the Army in 1868(?) after paying a licensing fee to S&W for using the Rollin White bored through cylinder patent.  More were sold commercially in .46, as well as numerous .44 centerfire.  That's just the NMA 44s.  Then you have all the 36s and .31s.  I would guess it would be in the high tens of thousands.

T.L., there's never been one documented Remington conversion as having been issued to the Army. The Navy converted a few .36's to .38, however.

Maybe no documented 46 R.F. conversions issued to the army, but there were several sent to the Army for field evaluation per McDowell's book. Pgs.  54, 55.

I'm going to research this more and ask a fella in the Remington Collectors Society. I'll get back.

Great,

I'll check Workman again and see if I can locate the primary source he used.

I'll quote from the esteemed Jay Huber from the Remington Society:" We have never found any contract where conversions designs were ordered by the Army."  However, he went on to add that he felt some were used by the Army. In essence, the Army, which kept meticulous records, is not on record as having issued even one.

I know you would have to reline the barrel of the NMA but do we know if any of the Remingtons were ever offered or redone in .44 Henry Rimfire?

I have never seen one or heard of one, but I'd bet that there might have been one made somewhere sometime.
