Henry 4440: When you want to have your Henry engraved in the US you may want to check import/export regulations from Europe first. Most gun smiths/engravers in the US do not have an import/export license and/or do not want to go through the hazzle.
It might be easier for your to get the engraving job done in Europe although only a red blooded US engraver can catch the spirit to make your classy rifle a show piece.

I'll second Jim Downing's work - especially if you find him a copy of the styly you'd like.

He's fairly fast - for what he does - and you'll no doubt be pleased with the result.

Henrys are great to doll up, and engravers love them - all that soft brass and those flats make their job both easier and faster, since they can set to work as soon as they place the transfer onto the surface.

As an aside - when I started collecting - a helluva long time ago - Henrys and Winchesters literally abounded - as did Colts and the rest of the run of firearms used on the Frontier.

Most of the Henry rifles were engraved - but engraved long after the fact, as an 'enhancement' to the prospective buyer.

Back then - none of the reference books were available, as they are now - and gun dealers' reputations were on a par with those of used car salesmen - unless you 'knew' someone. 

Everyone else was fair game.

As a young collector - I was told several times over the years that the dealer who had an un-engraved Henry mostly had one in original condition, and to take a closer look at it.

With an address in Northern Germany - you'll find excellent engravers nearby.

Just be sure what pattern you want, since engraving styles do vary and the European engravers do favor their own style a bit.

The bulk of them work from templates and transfers, though - so deciding on what example you want to be copied is your first priority.

After that - a clear copy can be provided to the engraver and they can modify it as needed while they produce the transfer.

Think of it like applying a stencil...

Ken Hurst did  my  45lc about 8 years ago. I will try to get some pictures if I can figure out how to make this camera work.I am very pleased with what he did. He put my coat of arms on one side and a copy of an  1840s  artillery buckle on the other.

However, when I tried to reach him several months ago, I couldnt find  anything on him.

Does anybody know  if he is still  working?
