New USFA SAA doesn't shoot straight

Pards -

Took my shiny new SAA to the range for the first time this past weekend, and to my chagrin she shoots decidely to the left. Elevation is fine, right on the mark, but at 25 yards was shooting a good four inches to the left.

And lest you think it was the shooter I handed my new baby over to my club's .22 pistol champion, who promptly put a nice tight group right at 9 o'clock just outside the black on an NRA 50 yard pistol target.

We were shooting factory Winchester cowboy rounds, my gun is in 45 colt.

I'm new to pistols in general, sixguns in particular (I shoot mostly clays), So questions;

Anybody know what distance the USFA guns are sighted in? I've heard 75 yards but that wouldn't jibe with the elevation we were getting.

Are these guns known for shooting straight out of the box? Are my results within 'normal' tolerance for a USFA.

Comments on the Winchester ammo, I don't reload so suggestions on a quality factory ammo that may shoot straighter.

Thanks,

For the ammo you're shooting the barrel will have to turned (professionally!) ever so slightly. Call the company.

I had the same issue with my SAA Premium from USFA.   It is a 5.5 incher,  black powder frame, 45 colt.  Shot off center everytime.  I had a deputy sheriff who happened to work at the gun shop where I  was shooting try it.  I tried a couple of different manufactured ammo with the same result.  He said...nope its not you ...its the gun.   Sooooooo  I called Gary Granger and he said send it back.  They turned the barrel and I had them put some Tru Ivory grips on it while they were at it.  I got it back with a target showing it now shot point of aim.  I would call Gary to get permission to send it back  ( they have a new policy now for returns).  They will make it right.  Let us know how things turn out for you.  Safe shooting.  Deadeye.

Folks -

Thanks FCK and Deadeye for the replies. Thought I would update the board on the latest news.

Turns out I did't have to call Gary Granger myself, after seeing my post here on CAS City Gary took the initiative and sent me an email last night. Gary and I chatted about my SAA this morning and I now have a FEDEX call tag on the way to send my new baby back for some smithing.

Not only does USFA make the finest colt single action replica available at any price, they appear to have the customer service to match.

A public 'thanks' to Gary and I'll post a note to the group how things turn out when my sixgun comes back from the factory.

Doesn't surprise me in the least that Gary Granger saw your posting and responded to you.   He (AKA Banjoman)  frequents this board even though he is a busy guy, handling most of USFAs sales and customer service duties.   He is a smart guy....no amount of money can buy this kind of well deserved PR.  Other companies should follow his lead!!    Safe shooting.  Deadeye.

Lash,
I am sure that you will be happy when you get the gun back because it will have been "certified to point of impact" by the factory.  I specified this on the last gun I special ordered from them and it hits dead on, point of aim at 25 yards.

You just can beat service like that!! Even I am impressed, and I have been on the USFA bandwagon for a long time. Wow!!!  Way to go, Banjoman!!

Well, that is good service, however, I think for that kind of money the revolver should shoot POA at some noted distance.

25 or 50 yards would be nice.

Does anyone know if USFA line-bores their premium revolvers?

Line boring is really only needed for those who wring out the most accuracy from a revolver, e.g., silhouette shooters, and is really overkill for a CAS revolver. Besides, it's exhorbitantly expensive as well as everything has to be jigged up precisely. The only manufacturer I know of that does it is Freedom Arms. Finally, any revolver that will shoot into 3 in. at 25 yds. will outshoot 99% of the people who own it.
