Ejector Rod Assembly

When converting  one of the Pietta 1862 Army/Police revolvers, as sold by Cabela's, with the R&D 38 caliber conversion cylinder, is there an ejector rod assembly made for these or is there something that can be adapted?  I am sure that pushing out the empties with a wooden stick will work but it would be nice to be able to install somthing that at least looks prototyical.

There are plans online for how to do this... I will have to look at an old bookmark file to see if its still there.

Otherwise, I think I d/l'd it and converted it to PDF a while ago... (have a pair of 1851s I keep telling myself I will convert over some day)

Kirst is coming out with a new bolt on type for the 1851 and 1861 Navys and the 1861 Navy should also fit the 1862 Police.

Looks to be a very nice item and I understand it will only be available thru Jim Boeke and River Junction Sales.

I've been pushing mine out with a stick on my Remmie because there isn't an ejector available for it yet. It's a PITA. I may make one if Walt doesn't get the new ones made soon.

Your best bet is to call Jim Boeke at River Jundtion Trade Co., at 1-563-873-2387 or 1-866-259-9172.

I spoke to him yesterday and put one on order,  he has 25 coming in within the next two weeks and expects them to go fast.

I put ejectors on my converted Uberti's by ordering the parts for the RM conversions and fitting them to the pistols.  The trick was the angle necessary to get them to worl.  If Kirst is bringing them out it probably would be a lot simpler.

According to Jim Boeke at River Junction Trade Co., the ejector for the 1851 will be available in a couple of weeks and the ejector for the 1861 will be coming shortly and from what he told me, will also fit the 1862 Police.

The latest update, as of today, 3-1-06.

I have been in touch with Walt Kirst via eMail and he says "We are still working on the 1851 Navy ejector; once it is on the market I'll start with the 1861 ejector (it is slightly different).  Our '62 ejector should fit if the barrel is 5 inches or longer."

He advises that the price for '51 ejector is $125.00 but he won't have a price on the '61 ejector until he is finished with it and the sole distributor will be River Junction Trading Co.

No availability date was mentioned.

I found an article on line in the March 2004 issue of "The Hobby Gunsmith".  Is this the article that you were thinking about?  It has some good info and photographs as to how they did their's.  I think that this gives the guidelines that I need.  Thanks again.

The originals had the side of the barrel milled to accept the curve of an ejector assembly snugly.

Got my Kirst 1851 Navy Ejector Rod Assembly from River Junction Trade Co. today and it works and looks great, not quite original but real nice. Can't wait to see the one for the 1861 Navy.

They are R&D 38 Long Colt gated conversions so an ejector assembly will work on them.

I have a 45 Colt R&D drop in cylinder for one of my 1858 Remingtons.  I use this gun for a main match back up gun and you are right in that an ejector would not work with one of this type.

Just finished taking pictures of the New Kirst Ejector I installed on my Kirst Converted Pietta 1851 Navy and thought I would put it up for all to see. Installation was a snap with no filing or fitting involved, it went right on with no problems.

Looks so good I can't hardly wait to get the one for my 1862 Police.






Here is my newly modified Pietta 1862 Army Police with Kirst Conversion Kit and Faux Ivory Grips by Collins. I have the ejector on order for this but have not received it yet, will post picture when arrives.

No, I don't shoot with them on they are strictly for show, when I intend to get serious I put the Walnuts back on.

Can't argue with that, they look great for show (must make the ladies oooh and ahhh), and walnut is hard to beat for real shooting.

Good to see another shipmate for me, too. Looks like you made a real difference; I could have trained a bright chimp with normal color vision to do most of what I did.

1861 Navy and 1862 Police Ejectors:

Finally got my Kirst Ejectors for the 1851 Navy and 1862 Police Revolvers with loading Gates.

Walt did a fine job, took me about 5 minutes to install it and it works great right out of the box.

Works great and looks great.

I will post some pictures as soon as I have an opportunity.
