Hello SSS,

I'm directing this question to those of you who may have purchased a reproduction hammer from SS Firearms to be used on an original Spencer. Before the hammer can be used to fire a round, does anything have to be done to it first?  Does it need to be hardened?  If so what or how is this done correctly?  The hammer is described below with a photo from the SS Firearms Parts Catalog.

If the hammer needs to be made ready to fire a round correctly, explain what needs to be done to it...in detail for a novice to understand, please.  Thanks.

Give Phil Seiss at S&S Firearms a call and ask him.

He's quite experienced with all aspects of Spencers and helpful, besides.
