I was recently looking over the Taylors & Co. website. They offer a "new" listed Remington 1858 Army revolver w/ forged frame. What is the differance between the steel frame, & the forged frame?

I think one is cast and one is forged...

  forged being stronger

Forging also allows the crutical tollerences to be kept tighter and more consistant, allowing for less machining and fewer required hand fitting operations. This will make getting replacement parts and grips easier, since the sizes will be more consistant, and won't need as much "fitting". More "drop in" parts mean less time at the gunsmith!  ;)

I just got one... never had a cast frame Remington to compare it to, but I like it. I might get me another one next payday  :D

Whats the price differential? I'm totally happy with my standard Uberti 58 but now I'm curious. What other CAS guns come forged rather than cast?

rickk

price differntial is only like $20 or so

I just bought a forged frame one. It has more clearance between the top and bottom of the frame between the cylinder and frame. Also it has more room at the front of the cylinder where you load the balls in.

Is is WAAAY smother and feels like a cartridge gun in my opinion.
