I know some of you dislike the Reddish Urethane that comes on
the new Remington.
I did not like it so I redid mine. :)

Marshal Will Wingam

Yeah, that makes a difference. Looks good. I did mine and really like the way they came out.

GOOD JOB MAYNARD! Did you happen to do the same with your 2nd Gen Colts? I don't like the red finish either, but I'm told the originals came that way new.

Both my 2nd Gen.1860's are oil finished ... my 2nd Gen 51 Navy is a civilian model and has redish varnish & silver backstrap/TG (which is correct) and pleasing ...
the finish on the Remington was not, way to heavy.
Of my Type 1's the USPFA is oil finished the Kenny Howell is varnished but not reddish, it's very close to the finish (in color) to my Original 1860 which had a varnish finish.

I love the smell of Black Powder in the morning!

Cimarron Lawman

A most definite improvement.

Yankee John

Looks terrific  :o

First thing I did to my Pietta 5 1/2" was to refinish the grips with Tru-Oil.  a crappy pic,  but here it is.

As far as original New Model Armies go,  I am 99% sure that the original grips were oil finished (like the Colts).  Even though my original was re-blued,  the grips retain their original finish.

John

Fox Creek Kid

Colts were not oil finished (except for military purchases). They were varnished.  ;)

Steel Horse Bailey

But that red finish is SO pretty and authentic!  :o

NOT !!!

Nice, pard.  Big improvement.
