And advantage of one over the other if I was going to order from them? I haven't decided whether I want a RM or OT yet but these seem to be my options either way.

The only difference is the barrel markings.

Sounds good, I figured I would check since some places offer better customer service then others.

All the dealers are merely importers.  It's really Uberti v. Uberti.  Pick up whatever you can get at the best price.

For what it's worth, when I was ready to buy, I couldn't get Cimarron on the phone.  That "busyness" is part of their success.  And they are very successful.

In all subsequent dealings with Taylor's, they have jumped through hoops to get me what I wanted, even replacement sights for my Spencer gratis and the occasional small discount.  They return calls and are candid about problems.  As a business person myself, I understand that's what builds customer loyalty.

To all reposts Cimarron is a fine outfit, and this ain't a slam at them.

W.T.,
That's the kind of input I was looking for, I wasn't too clear in my first post. Taylor's lists lower prices and is here in VA as well.
Thanks!

Either company is good to deal with.  I wouldnt be too concerned about what the "list Price" is on the website.  Both companies sell for less to FFL holders and that is who you are going to be buying your gun from anyways.  I would contact an FFL of your choice and see how much he is willing to sell a particular gun to you for.   He can call Cimarron and Taylors to see what the best price is for him and he in turn can pass some savings on to you.  From my perspective,  the FFL you deal with is the one you establish the relationship with anyways.
I have found that Taylors  (Tammy) is easier to get in touch with.  In additon,  their gunsmith is also often available to talk to on the phone.    One other consideration is which distributor is able to get the gun you want in the most timely fashion.  Both companies are at the mercy of Uberti with regards to shipments,  but of course each distributor places orders at different times and so will get merchandise in at different times.     Good luck and safe shooting.

I hate we have to settle for the crap italians send..iv sent three '60 Armys back,,,thank God Taylors are decent folks,,,like someone said,,,they are at the mercy of the italians..but Taylors is the best iv worked with so far about taking care of you after they get your money.

If the guns got a barrel and shoots, others think its in ya head...Taylors take ya word for it that your not happy, no questions, no 'oh hell thats normal,,,etc,,,they work WITH YOU, not against you. They get my vote.

Marshal Deadwood,,,,*looking for some quality bunch to make perc models and ot/conversions...

Within the last year I bought a 1851 RM Navy and a 1871 Army Open Top from Taylor's along with a 1866 Yellowboy.

Taylor's customer service and quality is first class.

Besides having the guns "tuned," one thing you can have done with an Open-Top is have the rear sight "vee" (located on the barrel in front of the cylinder) ground to a "U".  I had this done on my Open-Tops and it greatly improved the sight picture.  I don't know if the same can be done with the "vee" on the hammer of the Richard-Mason.  The gunsmith I used for my guns is Joe Alves at Pioneer Gunworks.  His email is "willshootem@pioneergunworks.com."

I opened mine with a file.
