Water Proofing My Cap 'n Ball

I have been a S/A revolver fan for over 30 years now. I've never had a cap and ball revolver before, but I now find my self anxiously awaiting the arrival of a SS Ruger Old Army.

My first question may be common knowledge to you cap 'n ball enthusiasts. How do you make your loaded black powder cylinder and caps water resistant to say, rain.  If I were to use my ROA in a camping situation, for example, I would like it to stay reliable for a week or more at a time. I can see that the lube on the business side of the cylinder would protect that end, but what about the percussion cap side?

All I can think to do is to drip some hot wax on them to provide a seal, but that doesn't sound like the safest thing to do, so I hesitate to do that.

How did the sixgun users accomplish this in the 1800's I wonder?

I dont know what you can do to waterproof this.

mabey someone there would know.

as far what people did in the old days. i think they loaded them every day with new powder to make sure they fired each day.
