My sister just gave me a DVD she picked up "Blue and Gray."  Being a Spencer lover and Civil War re-enactor, it is hard to believe that I never watched it.

Major2, I know you said you rented them the Spencer.  Did you rent them two?  I noticed that in the repair train scenes, both Stacy Keatch and his Sgt. both appear to have Spencers.

Were they 1860 or 1865 models, had you already converted them to centerfire, and do you know what they used for blanks?

As for the movie....

It was fun to see the Spencer get so much time and shooting, even if Lincoln used a carbine in the movie instead of a rifle, and even though historically the scene is inaccurate (according to Bilby): some orders were in place and rifles being delivered.

As for the rest... I have not finished it yet, but here are my impressions: There are some very improbable scenes (Yankees at a Rebel barn dance - Ugh!), etc.  To a certain extent, the uniforms, guns, and camp life authenticty aren't too bad, though I am sure the "Authentic Campaigner" crowd groan at the mention of the movie.

All in all, it is entertaining, and gives a relatively reasonable snapshot of the Civil War if you take out the hollyweird and stupid scenes.

I absolutely loved the Spencer scenes!  The only other movie that I have seen where a Spencer is actually fired is Unforgiven.  I don't think they were fired in Selleck's Last Stand at Sabre river, or the recent Hallmark westerns where Spencers occasionally show up.

I now await your broadsides, gentlemen.

Didn't Sam Elliott and Tom Selleck use Spencers in "The Shadow Riders"?  If I remember right that was about the only thing I liked about the movie. ;)

Both were indeed mine and both are 1860 models , both had S&S upper blocks...

The Gun Keatch used has been totally polished..... The Gun Peck used is still as it was used with modeling gray to the case colors/
It is in fact the better gun with a mirror bore in 56/56 and resides oon my den wall.

I am ....hesitantly entertaining thoughts of selling the Peck Gun.... I have a personal problem , I need to raise some cash... :-\

The third gun was not converted and the were two rubber prop guns....

No rifles were used though they had several Sharps rifles and some in rubber two.
