Good Afternoon all:

Just wondering, does anyone here know how they load the Mounted Shooting Loads.  A friend was telling me that they crimp the end of the cartridge and that it is pretty much the black powder that breaks the balloons.

A little help, he is trying to figure out how to do this.  And where to find the stuff to do it right.

Thanks,

Steve

Is he wanting competition ammo or practice ammo?

When the local SASS club helps at the SASS booth for the Oshkosh DU "Great Outdoors" we use some store bought star crimped loads that SASS Inc. provides. It looks like the following.

The following link for ammo is on the Cowboy Mounted Shooting Assoc. site.

I love the smell of Black Powder in the morning!

H999,

Try a PM to James Hunt here in the City.  He does mounted shooting and would be willing to tell you what he is using.

Howdy Highlander,

Are you wanting to load your own or purchase already loaded?

The burning black powder does burst the balloon.

We use J&B Blanks, which you can find also by following the link Slim provided. They also sell training blanks that make alot less noise when you are first starting your horse.

Is there a mounted club near you or your friend? The folks are usually very helpful to new comers.

Thanks all.  I guess we had actually thought about getting a loader that crimped the cartidges, but buying them may be easier and cheaper  :)

He raises lots of horses, and was thinking we could work with them, and get them ready for future Modern Cowboy Mounted Shooters.  And starting out with some light loads would be great.

We are going to start shooting around the young horses a little at a time, like getting a retreiver ready so he/she's not gunshy.

Thanks to all.
