I've only seen two original Volcanics.  Both had some simple scroll engraving on the receiver, and both receivers were silver plated.

The first one was at a gun show almost 30 years ago and the guy was asking $650 for it.  Times change.

The two guns in that picture look about right to me as for comparing the size of the two. You can plainy see how much smaller the frame is on the Volcanic, and how much shorter the barrel is. Whereas the stock on both is about the same size.
That's bad business! How long do you think I'd stay in operation if it cost me money every time I pulled a job? If he'd pay me that much to stop robbing him, I'd stop robbing him.

Ya probably inherited every penny ya got!

Hey Pards

I did just a little bit of snooping, and here is the actual Volcanic I handled the other day:

You know, I'd love to have an Original Henry and one of them Volcanic Pistols too.. :)

But I have a feeling it'd take a life savings to have either...let alone both.

$25,000!

Wow!  I envy you being able to handle a piece of history like that.

What a shame.  The price of some firearms, for which you can't get ammunition nor really play with.  An original Henry, nice, no provanance, 15 - 30 thou.  Cifil war history - 60 thou.  And you can't play with either!!!! :'(

Books OToole

Volcanics are neat because the are the first Smith & Wessons and the first Winchesters.

The Age of the Gunfighter by Rosa is a large format book (10" X 13") and it has a double page spread of Volcanics on pages 104-105.  Thirteen of them, three rifles and ten pistols.  The one pistol with the detachable stock is the one to have to illustrate the double first.

There is also a double page spread of Henrys on pages 108-109.  Eleven of them.

Was at a Gun Show the first of the month and one of the collectors had a Volcanic handgun on display.  Really neat.
Just before I left Colorado some years back, there was an outfit talking about producing a modern copy of the Volcanic in .22.  I've never seen anything come of it though.  Even a modern copy in .22 would be fun to play with.

Now wait a minute.  Modern copy of a Volcanic, .32 short, 6 round capacity ...... shooter starts with hammer down on empty chamber ..... at the buzzer ............... do able.  Very do able.  Talk about your style points, and shooting a henry rifle to boot.  Im IN!!!
