Wakefield Farm and Quantrill

Due to a death in my family I traveled to Kentucky over the weekend, and while I was there decided to seek out the Wakefield Farm area where William Clarke Quantrill was killed at the end of the "struggle". I remembered as a kid having seen a "Commonwealth of Kentucky" roadside marker  mentioning Quantrill having been killed in that area, so I was pretty sure I could find it again. Not only did I find it, I was shocked to see just how close it was to my family's farm-only about 250 yards from where our family had been since the early 1800's. As I stood in our family cemetery behind the farmhouse looking at the headstones, I could only imagine that my Great-Great Grandfather and my Great-Grandfather and their families were not only alive then, they surely knew what had happened there-they probably heard the gunfire from the skirmish---what a very interesting brush with history. Oddly enough, I live only about an hours drive from where Quantrill grew up in Dover, (originally Canal Dover) Ohio, where most of his remains are interred with his family. Just wanted to share this with those that have an appreciation for things historic.

Its on up the Ohio River towards Louisville.  Not quite that far.  Do they call it Middle North Kentucky?
