Howdy Y'all,
I'll be getting a Marlin 45-70 Cowboy next week and was wondering what if any modifications I might have to do to it to slick it up. I have worked on 66's 73's & 92's but no Marlins.
Thanks in advance

Agree with the "Shoot it" thought!
and will add.....
Possible enhancements to me might be smoothing the trigger a bit....maybe adding or changing sights, or modifications to make it fit me better, look more "old"-west, etc.

Enjoy, Sounds like fun!

You may want to lighten the hammer spring 'cuz they are heavier than they need to be. There are a few outfits that offer lighter springs. I have one that was made in 1978. The hammer is quite heavy. I don't notice it in competition, but do when I'm plinking.

Actually the hammer spring on some is too light and it has been known to affect accuracy. 3 washers are recommended to tighten it up if it does. There is a complete proceedure on it posted on Marlinsowners forum. Garrett of Garrett ammunition found the problem on some of the 45/70's.
