I'm looking for the prices of cartridges from 1860-1876.
I know that 1000 .44 cal Henry cartridges cost $17.50 in 1862.
But what  was the price for linen cartridges for a Sharps or the paper cartridges for the Colts & Remingtons or the price for the 44-40 and later the .45.Has anyone of some information?
;)

Oddly enough I was reading today that the Confederacy was paying $.83 per pound for black powder in 1861, and one year later was paying $1.14 a pound.

Even more odd, by going to www.measuringworth.com and plugging those figures in, the basic index comes up with the 2005(latest year they use for the equation) equivalent of approximately $18.00 to $25.00, or about the same increase in a pound of Triple 7 at Cabela's from last year to this year. . . . .

I don't recall any early cartridge pricing references that cover your time frame - though they're readily available for the 1890's.

The big Mail Order houses came into their own after the Civil War, and they'd have current retail pricing in their catalogs - but finding those catalogs can be a daunting task.

I'm away from some of my reference material, right now - so maybe someone else will answer your question.

Vaya,
