I know from experiance with colt clones that the grips on pieta and Uberti's are slightly differant.   Cabela's has a 5.5'' pieta, or I could go for a uberti.  Which would have the more comfortable grip for big hands and full house loads?  My preferance is for uberti with the colt clones.

I have both ( 8 inch , not 51/2). The Pietta  I think is bigger and feels better for a bigger hand. The uberti  feels more like a colt navy grip. Just my opinion

To me the Pietta feels bigger all the way around. The Uberti is a handier (lighter) pointer (my preference)
The smallest of the remingtons with MUCH SMALLER grips and a lighter frame is the Euroarms Remington. To me, it feels like a colt Navy compared to the Colt Army only among the Remingtons.

Thanks guys, I think I'll go with the uberti, have had better luck with them and fewer things to fix out of the box.

Just to add my two cents worth...

I ordered a couple of Pietta Remmies from Cabela's and have had zero problems with 'em.

The grips on the Pietta are about a 1/4 inch longer than the Uberti and don't crowd your middle finger.

The Uberti Remmies cramp my long fingers. The Pietta is bigger and beefier all round.

Cylinder is longer and chambers can hold more powder than ASM or Uberti Remmies.

Keep this in mind if yer gonna get a conversion cylinder; I got a Kirst gated number which works fine.

If'n you get one from Cabela's and it don't suit ya you kin just send 'er back.

One of the nice things about doing business with that outfit ! ;D

Happy Trails,

p.s. I got to admit, the Uberti's dovetail front sight is an advantage over the pressed-in style of the Pietta

I have had great luck with my Pietta Rem's. They are the 8" models, but, I might pick up some 5 1/2" pair as well some day.

My Pietta/Cabela's Remington 5 1/2" is a honey-  My favorite pistol!

No quality issues ever,  and when I installed the R&D conversion cylinder that I bought for it,  the gun indexes perfectly!

FWIW,

Well got my new toy in, a pietta 5.5" in 44.  Well I was plesantly surprised that the grips fit my hand and pointed pretty good, perhaps not as well as say a 51' navy, but a lot better than the ASM 58' that untill now had been my only experiance with the Remmingtons.  Action timing is dead on, realy have to try to make it overindex.  Only negatives are the finish while everything is striaght and true and the blue is deep and looks good I can still see machine marks and deep sanding marks that wern't taken down before finish.  Will probably leave as is, other thing wrong was a heavy amount of creap in the trigger pull, a few minits with a file fixed that and she breaks clean as glass at about 4lbs. pull.  The trigger sear may have to be hardened, it cut real easy with a file, the case colloring was nice, but is just coloring.  This one may get an R&D conversion cylinder, haven't decided yet.  Next step is to fire the darn thing and see if it's as accurate as it is handles.

I bought the Uberti 5.5 case hardened remmie ,,, its sweet better than i expected only advantage i can see over the Pietta model is in takeing the cylinder pin out ..the Uberti pin latch post is dovetailed in ...so it can be drifted to take the cylinder pin out ..On the Pietta the post isn`t dovetailed in ..pressed in or something ..no way to get the pin out with out modifacation to the pin ..or unscrewing the barrel a twist .

No problems with the pin as yet, I just dunk the whole frame in moose milk and clean it like that.  I may put a pivot in the pin later on, but for now it's no problem to clean.

Pretty accurate too, though the wide trigger messes me up sometimes and I pull it off target.  May grind it down to something like a colts. ;D

Overall I've very satisfied with it, only real complaint is the hammer and trigger needs to be hardened.

I wouldn`t worrie about the cylinder pin much eaither ...both are fine pistols ..who knows how many miles ya can get on the cylinder pin anyway ...i`ve never worn one out yet .

Howdy Will,

Glad your likin' the Remmie from Cabela's.

I'm right fond of mine. Can't beat 'em at the price. 8)

Cabela's offers a Remington stainless spare parts kit for these guns.

Click on one of the stainless Remmies on their site and a list of suggested accessories pops up.

Kit includes hammer, trigger, hand, bolt and springs; purty much anything liable to ever break or wear!

The stainless material is a bonus fer cleanin', probably tougher than the standard carbon steel items.

Get ya a set of good screwdrivers and keep the parts kit handy in your shootin' box.

You may never need it but if a trigger/bolt spring breaks on ya yer all set ! ;)

Cheers,

Cincinnati Slim

Thanks, I'll check into it, the main problem is the soft hammer sear, I'll probably use Kasenit and harden it.
