I'm about ready to brown the barrel and parts of my trapdoor Hawken.   I've always used Plumb Brown with heat before, but I have some soldered parts that can't take the heat.  Has anyone any experience using the Laurel Mountain cold solution?  I read one person had some coppering problems.

I've had good luck with Plum Brown and hot tap water.  Won't bother the solder. Takes several applications, but it comes out very nice if you have the patience.

Is the Laurel Mountain stuff the same as the old Homer Dangler solution? I know Homer (fairly famous at the NMLRA/Friendship events) sold the formula and marketing to somebody, but I can't remember if that's the bunch or not.

If it is, I have used it several times with good effect -- a couple of muzzleloaders and a couple of '66 Uberti rifles (not the brass parts, obviously).

     Triggersmith:

I have used Laurel Mountain Brown quite extensively in the past and i have had good results all around. One nice feature about this stuff is that it has a degreaser in it, so while I did degrease ahead of time, I didn't have to be as thorough.  I keep it around all the time.  I think you'll like it.
