Hey all,

My Uberti Cattleman gets lots of use when I am at my friends ranch. The bluing is getting some worn spots. What do you reccomend to do some re-bluing? Thx.

Pejay, seriously, I say let it wear. Gives it "character". I look at the hoster-worn finish on my Ruger Single Six and think it's just wicked keen the way it is. I'll let my other revolvers wear their blue off too. As long as it's kept clean and oiled, rust won't be a problem. But hey, they're your guns. If you want a good reblue, give them to a 'smith who does good work and tell him to make 'em look real nice.
Yours, &c.,

About the toughest cold blue available is Oxpho Blue from Brownell's.  It was originally for tool dies and is really resistant to wear.  Very easy to apply too!  One application lasted for 20 some years on an old Trooper I carried in a shoulder holster.  Comes in a cream that's easier than the liquid.  It makes a black finish though.  It'll even darken parkerizing.  A little warning; wear rubber gloves.  It doesn't stink or burn, it stains your skin.  They must dye it blue to make it look like "bluing" now 'cause it wasn't blue years ago.

Thx folks,

I appreciate your comments. I won't spend money getting it blued by a gunsmith. I have enjoyed this pistol and I take good care of it with cleaning and oil. I do have to tighten screws after a weekend at the ranch. I have to laugh when my friends shoot it and ask, "how accurate is it at 100 yds ;-) Have a great holidays.
