removing a barrel

Is removing a barrel from a pistol, something that one with mechanical abilty can do?, or should it be left up to a gunsmith?

You need a barrel vice and if you are going to do the job right, you also need an action wrench.  By the time you buy the necessary tools, it would be far cheaper to have a gunsmith do the job.  If you are going to be changing a lot of barrels, then it might be cost effective to buy the tools.
