Long Loading Lever

I don't really like the look of the short loading levers on the 5 1/2" 1858 Remmies. They are too balanced. A genuine cut-down pistol from the era would have a shortened full-sized loading lever. I had one of the long levers lying around so I cut it down to fit and replaced the one that came in my 5 1/2" .44. I like it and may have to order a couple more for my .38's. Here's the result (the top one is the short lever and the bottom one is the shortened full-sized one):

I like the cut down full size lever and while I don't know for sure I think it makes sense that the shortened lever is how it would be done.  Not a scaled down version of the full size lever.

Nice job , Marshall.

Never thought of doing that, but now from your pictures, ...I see what you mean. The longer lever does look better.
Plus , ya get a few more ounces of weight out front....... ;)
