Coulda been a lot worse, but the above are the remnants of the drying pan and the loaded smokeless round that got mixed in with some BP brass in the soaking can.

There were a couple hundred cases on the pan, so the loaded round naturally was in the bottom.  Aside from the few damaged cases, about 50 blew all over the oven, including down through some openings alongside, ending up in the broiler.  Scared the bejeepers outta us, but nobody got hurt.

Now, imagine if it had gone off as I was taking the pan of brass out of the oven  :o

You're drying at too high a temp, I presume. Set the oven on warm (150F - 200F) & when it comes to temp. sit the pan in the oven & then SHUT OFF the oven & let sit a few hrs.  ;)

I dry brass over the forced air heating vents.  Set them up in plastic ammo box "thingies"

I normally put it at 200, but today I lit it up at 250, in part to warm the cool kitchen.  250 won't hurt brass, but it does a number on gunpowder and a primer.

Ho AJ,

Ceramic Porcelain media is run wet.  When I shake out a batch and rinse it off, I dry it in my Lyman shaker tumbler with corncob media.  I've got an old Gralab timer that I set for one hour and let 'er flicker.  Brass comes out dry and ready to load.

My bride won't let me in the kitchen since I burnt the beans so bad she had to call the fire department.

Hey!  All  us guys ought to find a way to get banished from the galley.  Our brides are better cooks anyway.  FWIW, mine still lets me peal potatoes and make pancakes and coffee.

Amen.  I married a gal who lived at home with her mom and grandma.  She had been the designated dishwasher and could hardly boil water.  AAMOF, one of our longest running (not so) secret jokes involves me asking her to "burn some water" when I want coffee ;)

15 years on she's pretty accomplished, but I can still teach her a thing or two about cooking (but don't dare too often cuz I don't want the job)  :)
