How would this moosemilk bath work for preserving guns "in the white"?  Any special precautions I should take?  Or should I not even attempt this?

BK,

You'd be Just Fine protectin' yer new Remingtons with Ballistol.  (I'd use it straight for storage, but mixed for cleaning.  And iffn yer shootin' ever month er so, just use the mix.)  I'm not sure about long-term storage, tho.  Personally,  I'd opt for BreakFree or other quality preservants for long term.  (I had most of my guns stored at a friend's house for nearly 8 years when I was stationed in Ger-mer-many, and BF worked flawlessly.)  Like DD, I hit upon the soak methodin the late '70s, only I used BreakFree in an aluminum bread pan.  I didn't have anything big enough for rifles, tho.  (I STILL use BF to lube my BP guns, because while I DO have some Ballis. I have been SUCCESSFULLY using "Hoppes #9 PLUS  BP Cleaner" with none of the dreaded Ballistol + Oil = Tar problems.  For 35 yrs.)  If ya don't believe me, ask Litl Rooster - he practically drooled all over my 1860 (Uberti) Colt when he handled it.  T'weren't no gunk there!

Like Adirondak Jack, I'm a-thinkin' Hmmmm ... and I can already smell wood burnin'.  ::)  From the unaccustomed thinkin' goin on.  ;)  Looks like some kinda air thingy (scientific term) needs to be in my future.  Thanks fer the idear, Dick!
