RM Ejector on 51 Navy R&D Gated Conversion

I recently bought a real neat 51 Navy off the Wire that had been converted by R&D to cartridge conversion (Shield cut and plate w/firing pin and gate fixed to it). It did not have an ejector, though, and I wrote to VTI about how hard it would be putting a RM type on it. Their response:
"Not easily, though some do make it fit. It depends on your comfort with
alterations."

Does anyone know exactly what kind of alterations are involved? And how badly would my "comfort" be taqxed? Since I have no C&B cylinder it will not go back that way.  Now it is essentially like the Man With No Name conversion.

I added ejectors to my Uberti 1851's after converting them.  I ordered the parts used by Uberti in their RM and Open Tops.  I rounded them up using VTI and I believe Cimarron. I think the parts ran me $50 per gun.  I used the loading ram hole to mount the assembly.  The ejrctor rod had to be reduced in diameter by about half and it had to enter the chamber at an angle.  No matter how tight I mounted the assembly it would pivot on the one screw, so I ended up using some JB Weld to fasten down the end of the assembly.  Some fitting had to be done aroung the wedge.  I believe Kirst has an ejector assy for the 1851 Navy, if so it would probably be an easier path, I know I would have taken it.

Dusty,

The R-M ejector assembly is not intended for use with the octagonal Navy barrel.  While it can be "made" to work, it isn't a real practical application.
I would suggest you visit Walt Kirst's site.  He makes an ejector assembly for both Uberti and Pietta '51s that should fit up easily (relatively).
