Hi guys n gals,
I live in the Orange County, Riverside County area of So Cal. What would be a ballpark figure to cut the barrel of my 58 Remmie down a bit? Call me crazy, but I'm also exlopring the possabilty of converting it to a bird's head grip; any thoughts as to the possibility and cost? it's a brass frame so it's BP only. Thanks,

Howdy, Tom!

It didn't cost  much for me to cut down my own NMA barrel.  It cost me the price of replacement sight and loading lever latch.  Less than $15 from VTI GunParts, shipped.

After that it was all time-expense.

Read all the stuff you can, then do it.  Except for cutting the dovetail with a file, the barrel cutting was pretty simple.  Perfectly centering the front sight was a bit touchy, but not impossible.

Now that it's over, I'm pretty proud of it.  You can read WHY I had to perform the amputation on "My CAS City Profile."

Sorry, I'm not yet experienced enough to post pictures on here, but I CAN post some pics in my Photobucket album - AFTER my son returns the Digital camera of ours.

Steel Horse,

Much obliged; it seems from the info Iv'e seen here demonstrates that it's not as dificult as I thought, except for possibly the loading lever.

Tom- The loading lever is a piece of cake! (Depending on how short your going with the barrel).

Just use the lever off a Remington NAVY- It is 1 1/2" shorter than the Remington NMA lever.  Dixie & VTI both carry it.

See pics below!
