Trap: I bought one as described with original box last winter at the convention. I paid $500. I don't think I got a great deal, but I don't think I got ripped either. I have seen them since going for up to $650. I have not seen an unfired one at any show for less than $500 for several years. It is a very nice gun, as good as anything else that has come out of the Colt factory and better than alot of 3 rd gen Colt SAA's circa mid 90's I've seen. Jim

Trap, I've seen a 2nd. Generation Dragoon for up to $700, but if I recall, that was probably with the box.  The one you are speaking of, does it have the box?  I think James is right, $500 is about the minimum.  So, if it is unfired, then I would think between $500 and $700 is ok, with the $700 getting to be a little on the high side.  Anything more than that, then I would walk away....

I passed on two of them - priced at $450 each - because there was no box or associated papers for either one.

They're nice guns - and as I've mentioned before - 'real' Colts - but for that money - they need to be complete as sold.

Sure, you'll see higher prices on the various gun auction/gun sale sites - and at gun shows -  but you don't see anyone paying them.

Major 2

I saw a very early ( late 70's )  low S#  2 Gen. 51 Navy with the original Brown box sell at my FFl's for $900.
He also had another 51 from the later Blackbox collection without the box for $450 (it had been fired but was in fine shape)

I am amased (as a shooter) that the cardboard Box can double the price , but it does.

I have three , 2 - 1860's & one 51 Navy sadly (though I will not sell them ) I no longer have the boxes.

I've got a pair, myself - an early 1851 Navy squareback, with both box and papers 'and' the Colt presentation case and accessories (regrettably - someone stole the marked bullet mold), and an early 1860 Army, with its box and with the shoulder stock.

That one was a parting gift from my Cavalry Squadron's troopers, when I left command.
(The second generation Colt Blackpowder guns were long out of production by that time and the 'Signature Series' guns weren't being produced as yet - so it took the guys some serious digging to come up with that set.)

Beautiful pieces, both.
