Well, my Uberti 1858 Remington factory Gated conversion in .45 Colt finally arrived at my house yesterday!  Problem is, I am 450 miles away in Temecula at my son's house for the holidays!  Its there at my house, and I won't be there until Friday night!

Ugh! I have waited 12 years since I handled an original to get one.  I guess a couple more days is insignificant.

I feel like a kid waiting for Santa to come on Christmas Eve!

Answers to questions that will be asked:

Where did I get it?
Taylor's.  They got some in, and are filling back orders (which I understand are a bunch!)

Is it an author gun?
Yes and no.  Yes, I am writing an article about it, but no - I ordered it more than a year ago when the first hint of them being made by Uberti came up.

Will I be selling it after I am done?
NO, unless hell freezes over and the devil serves soft freeze cones at the gates of heaven!

Here the URL for the pic.  Apparently it comes with both a 45 Colt and percussion cylinder!

More questions.

Did the 38's come in? Do I really have to call for pricing or can you give us a hint?

Oldelm

Lawman,.......Congrats on your new Remington!  ;D

I'll bet you're gonna love it.

Let us know if the recoil shield looks like the one illustrated in Cimarron's ad here....

http://www.cimarron-firearms.com/New2006/1858NewArmyConv.htm

...it probably should, because Cimarron's are made by Uberti, too.
Cimarron offers one chambered in .44-40, as well as .45Colt, and .38

I know I will love it too!

As for the questions:  I don't know about the 38s.  As for price, I have o wait and see the invoice, but they know I will want it no matter what!

Congrats on the new toy. 450 miles away, eh? You could do it in 10 hours if you averaged 90 mph. Add an hour for gassing up and grabbing the package off yer porch and you'll be back for breakfast tomorrow. No stress that way. ;D

I've been drooling over those Cimarrons for a while. I'm looking forward to seeing one in person.

I always figured Cimarron would have them first, but Taylor's sent me this one.

Nice going on a great looking pistol ..i`ve been drooling over a picture of those Taylors sent me ... just when i thought i had all the remmies i would ever want or need .... did you say the cap and ball cylinder comes with it ...wow ..i didn`t know that or think it would be able to swap back and forth .... Taylors was saying just under 500 bucks ... You just couldn`t make one for that if that holds true ..
Maybe by the time they finally get some in stock ...if that ever happens I`ll be able to decide if i want the short barrel or the long barrel ... :-\

For what it's worth, my 5 1/2 ones in .38spl balance beautifully. I have a 5 1/2" one in .45 and it balances nicely, but the one that was cut to 6" balances slightly better than the shorter one. It's about the same as the .38's. Nice feel to them. When I had 8" ones, they felt good, but the shorter barrel is nicer for handling quickly. If I did another .45 I'd go to the trouble to cut an 8" one back to 6". For .38's I'd just order a shorter one. I've been tempted to cut back a loading lever for an 8" .45 to fit my 5 1/2" pistol to get just a little more iron out on the end.

I have a real problem.  I know I am going to love the gated conversion.  I have wanted one since I handled an original in 46 French 12 years ago.  I will want to carry a pair.  BUT..... I also love Colt conversions.  I love the .45 Colt 1872 Open Top I just got too, so I want to carry that, also.  What's a boy to do?

My R&D cylindered 1860 and 1858 will probably languish in reserve, too.  Ugh too many guns to enjoy, and so little time <g>

Well, TL, I think you'll just have to get a brace of each. After all, someone has to do it.  ;D

BTW, I just talked to Taylors and the .38 spl conversion has a .36 cal BP bore. To shoot it, you either need to use the hollowbase bullets or have the barrel sleeved to .357. I had mine sleeved and they really work well. They're tack nailers just like my .45's.

That's a great feeling, though. Isn't it?  :)

Had the same feeling waiting for my new Long Hunter Rig, that I ordered through the Cas City Store, to arrive. Then it arrived about a week sooner than I had expected! That was an even better feeling. ;D

Oh, poot!

It's not really too big a deal, Goodie. Kenny at R&D can sleeve them for a reasonable price. He did mine and they're great.
