Ran into a fellow this weekend who is interested in doing some research on the 1878 Bannock War in Idaho and Oregon. Loaned him the appropriate volume of Cozzen's Eyewitnesses to the Indian Wars, and he already had autobiography of Sarah Winnemucca.

Can anybody recommend some helpful resources? I suspect there aren't many dedicated books...so appropriate articles or chapters in broader books would be greatly appreciated.

These might help - and I'm sure that there's more, since Big Hole is a well-documented site, and the National park Service has been busy in the past couple of years with documenting even further than they had previously done.

There's now a dedicated museum nearby, and a piece from my collection had been on display during it's opening.
(as an aside - when I requested its return - they tossed it into a box and mailed it - far differently from the way it had originally been shipped)

Thanks.

Sent a PM from my end - maybe it'll go through.

At any rate, I get to Lincoln about every ten days, or so - but I talk to Terry more often than that - so I'll check in.

About two years ago I met a Nez Perce who was descended from Yellow Horse (I think that is who it was).  We were up in Alaska, waiting for boat to take us whale watching - and the boat was late so we had some time to kill.

I don't have a great knowledge of this particular war, but he was excited to know that I even knew of it, so I listened while he told me stories that had been handed down over the generations.

It was one of the great highlights of my trip.
