Yup, you read it rite.

Pearl Lube II

The stuff is like teflon inside yer gun barrel.  It cleans up as easy as the original Pearl Lube, but it gets better and better when long shot strings are shot.  After 50 or more shots the barrel is so slick that the fouling doesn't even seem to hang on.  Further tests are going to happen, but for now, PLII is a definate improvement.

One thing I like about it is that it seems to stay put in lube/sized bullets better and is less messy to load.  The stuff is still motion activated, but it takes a lot more motion, like getting shot out of a cartridge.

I've tried it on my DD/ROA bullets and the ROAs thrive on 'em.  They are easier to handle in hot weather and the lube still washes the barrel clean after each shot.  But, the barrel seems to get slicker and slicker each time it's shot.  I'll be running chronograph tests to see what this means to long string shot consistancy.

So, there's a new lube on my web site.  I'm supplying Pearl Lube II to all that order Pearl Lube.  Feedback please. . .

In response to the many questions that have come via emule and phone, here's the major difference between original Pearl Lube and Pearl Lube II.

Two of the ingredients, vegetable shortning and container blend soy wax, remain the same.  The ratios have been adjusted but not the first two ingredients.  The third ingredient is a very secret, high tech replacement for the toilet bowl rings.  There were some petrolium based products in the bowl rings that had caused a few problems in ammo storage stability.  The replacement ingredient retains all the propertys of the bowl rings, but it's a lot more stable.  Also, PL I had a tendency to weep in some lube/sizer units.  The weeping didn't really cause a problem, but the first bullet lube/sized was always messy.  PL II seems to solve this minor problem because it doesn't separate under prolonged pressure.

Physically, PL I and PL II are quite similar.  PL II is a bit stiffer and easier to work with.  It's physically more like working with a beeswax based lube.  PL II is still motion activated just like PL I.  The major difference between the two products is that PL II seems to build up a slick residue inside the barrel.  It's drawn to heat and it seems to get into the pores almost on a molecular level.  It still cleans up as easy as PL I, but it runs cleaner the longer it is shot.  Preliminary results in long range rifle are very encouraging.

I've sent out a number of trial slugs and am waiting for feedback.  This takes time and I tend to be impatient.  I'll report what I hear as it comes in.

DD, I am wondering about Pearl Lube (II) and smokeless, or more specifically, the subs like 777 that seem to prefer smokeless lube to softer lube.

If Pearl Lube, an excellent slickum up for smokeless might be a little too slick and soft for the smokeless type stuff, would it be feasable to formulate a soy wax based lube a little lighter on the slickum, and a little stiffer, so it was less apt to form the grease we like with bp but the subs, particularly 777 seem better off without?

I thought I might give a try messing with something, but I'd like to hear your thoughts on it before I go and reinvent the wheel.

Howdy John Boy,

You are too on my list.  I'll send one along to you from the new batch I cooked up last night.  The "secret" ingredient is tricky to alloy with the other two.  Now, I've got some to ship again.  Also, let me know when you get your copy of the last Big Lube Bulletin.  For some reason snail mail has been quirky.

Stand by.
