Tuesday the U.S.M.C. Honour Guard performed a 21 Gun Salute & Taps for our friend & C.A.S. Shootist, Captain Smedly Butler U.S.M.C. @ an O.C., CA. cemetary.
There were over 100 friends & family, some in our best C.A.S. Attire @ his wife, Susan's request, to see him off Tuesday, 10 October 06, of this week.
Smedly was on a camping trip w/ his family in the San Bernardino Mountains the weekend prior, when he tripped, fell, hitting his head & expiring instantly I'm told by Susan.
Smedly will be missed greatly, he is also a Hero in every aspect of the word, a Pip before, during & after his T.o.D. in the U.S.M.C. & will always be w/ us.

This is bad news indeed.  Smedley was a long-time cyber-pard, and we enjoyed many e-mail exchanges over the years.  He will be missed.

Sad news. Another reminder of how fragile life is, and how quickly it can end. Prayers and condolences to his family.

I beg the indulgence of the members of the GAF and have the honor to present to the officers, staff and troopers the testimonial page of The Burro Canyon Gunslingers.

Capt. Butler was our territorial governor and as fine a man as has walked the Earth.

We of The Burro Canyon Gunslingers invite the members of the GAF to view our testimonial page.  The page will remain posted through the end of October but Smedley will live on in our hearts.

It is a well settled fact that there is nothing in the world that would not benefit from the addition of ninjas, pirates, moneys or midgets.

Beau

My poor timing,   I did not have the pleasure of meeting this man.
I too, am reminded that "death comes like a thief in the night" .
We never know just when we may be called home to meet our Maker face-to-face.

But, I am glad to see many prayers offered for the family,  I add mine.

Captain Butler,  sorry I missed you.  We will meet someday, I am sure.
