Sundance,

KIK is good stuff. Unlike GOEX they use the proper charcoal for a rifle or sporting grade powder - Alder. In fact it might be Buck thorn (which the Swiss use) but I am not quite sure. I have only used a few cans of it but I certainly perfer it over GOEX.

Cleaner burning, higher velocity.

The first batch that came in circa. 1999 was pure unadulterated crap. I ended up using it in a 12 ga. This last batch seems to have some better reports, although I know of not one serious long range shooter who uses it and that is always a benchmark for what powder is best IMHO. I have a can of FFFg that I haven't even opened yet. The problem seems to be the "fines", i.e. sloppy processing. Then again, Cuts Crooked had some good results in a Pedersoil RB with KIK. For CAS shooting any BP works, especially with a Big Lube bullet. Just my 2 cents worth.

That seems to be the common issue with KIK and something I noticed as well. They have all the right stuff and a strong powder but the finish and QC are a little slack. For CAS it would be fine as is. As for the fines etc. try socking it. Take a nice thick sock, dump some powder in it and roll it around. This will get rid of a lot of the fines and excess graphite.

DONT USE THE NEW PAIR YOUR WIFE JUST BOUGHT YOU AND PLEASE DO IT OUT SIDE!

The pards are telling ya right!

KIK is a good powder, better than Goex by far, especially if you "sock" it. I've been using KIK 3F in all my BP cartridge applications with great success. My 45-70 loads shoot better than I'm capable of. A good freind of mine can shoot the center out of the bull at 200 yards with my loads, in his gun or mine.
