I thought I would post what the barrel and ejector rod assembly looks like at about 85% polished out and everything installed. The ejector tube on the Richards were anywhere from .415 to .430 in diameter. This one was made from solid stock. You could probably use 1/2" steel tubing and turn it down, but I don't know what kind of wall thickness that would give you.

I still have to fit the head properly, as you can see in the photo it is not coming out at the end of the tube. I need to mill the slot a little deeper to fix that. As you can see I have most ot the proper angles cut in and contours just about finished on the barrel, it now has a much more graceful look to it. This has been polished out to 400 grit, I'll probably go to 600 or a little finer. The nice thing about putting a good nickle finish on a gun is that it hides a lot of the finer scratches.

Very nice Bill.

I just finished getting my eject. head 'in' yesterday. but not completely shape.  I messed up the entry port but not bad just too wide.  Rest of the housing is shaped.  I am going to strip this gun down then 'Antique Blue' like OTB did.

I will try and post a pic or two.

Jerry, I'm anxious to see what you've got done.....Did you use the diagram I sent you when you made your ejector rod housing and assembley?.

Bill,

Definitely, all the info you provided gave me a good starting point and then the needed pushed to start each step in the process.  Now I did have to modify the process in order to get the job done with the limited tools.  It looks very nice so far.

The hardest part was determining groove placementand depth for the finished tube and then cutting.  I had to silver solder the tube to the angle iron but it appears to be very strong.

My cuts are not perfect either but since this is a 'blacksmith conversion they will do.

The ejector head is now shaped (cross-cuts not on) and the head is rounded like the earlier Rrichards.  The head does stick out past the end of the tube also.  Darn that is a nice touch.  The unit is already screwed in also(had to make new screw, the ram screw is too short to fit across the barrel width).  Will wait till later to cut final final length of the rod.

I do thank you for that info Bill.

Well Bill I tried again to post a picture and I just cannot get them down to 100KB file size.  Cropping just does not do it.  I don't understand or I don't have the right program.

You will see it come April at least.  If I can figure out this computer file size deal well then maybe sooner.

Just a thought try to send them as a email...When I have a larger photo to email , I'm prompted "if" I'd like to resize ,so it will send faster.... :)

If not, Bill would have the emailed photo...... and me too .... hint hint  ;D

Well after I posted this I finally got something to work.  I resized it in Print shop and then Cas City accepted it.  It is an Adobe attachment rather than a pasted picture but it still is here.

See posting "Photo Test of 1st Model Richards".
