Western Film Fest - Would You Go?

Howdy pards.

I'm thinking of getting my local reenactment club to host a western movie film fest.  It would be something along the lines of 2-3 westerns, probably one older "B" western, and at least one of the "modern" westerns like "Tombstone".

My question is, if there was a western movie mini-fest of 2-3 westerns over the course of a Saturday afternoon or early evening, and you were within 2 hours drive or less, would you go?  I'm guessing the cost of 2 movies to be around $10/entrance, and $15 for 3 movies, if we went that way.  The theater would be "cowboys" for the duration, so I think it would be open for some discussion panels in between screenings.

What do you think?

Sounds interesting.  Where would you host it?  Could be a good mid winter kind of thing for us in the frozen Northwoods.  Too cold to shoot, not too cold to watch some good flix in the company of fellow Cowboys.

Keep me informed.

Hi Dick.

It would be in Minneapolis, MN.  Right now, I'm thinking of this for a line up:

Tombstone
something starring Gene Autry
Crossfire Trail

The exact film line up is subject to change; the theater owner told me to make a wish list of twice as many films as I I want to see because they are not always available.  The date would be mid-March or so.

Sounds good but Minnesota is a little out of my range.

A place to palaver and enjoy a good meal together would be welcome also.  Is there a restaurant in the area where we can seat a bunch of Cowboys and Cowgirls?

Howdy,

My posse, the Kansas Vigilance Committee has a two day western film fest every March.  We gather at a members house and watch films on a big screen tv.  Bring snacks and have a good dinner Sat. night and then more flicks.  Sleep and more flicks on Sunday.  Great time. Nice thing about it is we can be critics and not get shushed! ;D

The Twin Cities are a little far for me to make, but I hope that y'all have fun!

When I was stationed in North Carolina a few years ago, there were a couple of groups that did exactly that.  All of the movies were older B-Westerns though; none of the modern stuff.  One group held their showing on a monthly basis (a group member owned a couple of theaters).  Their fare usually consisted of a short or two, a serial chapter, and a main feature.  Many of the attendees dressed in B-Western duds, complete with two-gun rigs.  Not sure whether they still do this, but they had a website called TOCPS (The Old Cowboy Picture Show) which you can visit here:  http://www.cowboypal.com/tocps1.html

There was another group in NC which included some of those from the first group; they met periodically at a farm for viewing of the old B-Westerns.  Not sure whether they still do this, but the time that I went, they had probably 50 or so in attendance.

So if you can get the word out in your region, there may well be interest in it.  In both of the above instances however, the "draw" was replicating a 1940's - 1950's matinee experience, not modern movies which you could rent at the video store.  Of course, your mileage may vary...
