OIL!

The old "F Williams" English field gun I bought recently had hammer and trigger pulls reminiscent of lanyard fired artillery.

So, tonight I figured out how to take the side locks off (easy, one cross screw, actually designed to be serviced) and lo and behold, there was crud in both locks that may date to the Roosevelt administration (TR, not FDR).

Used a little natural, non-drying dirt dissolver and protective lube (olive oil, straight from momma's kitchen) and a small brush to slobber em up some, wiped off loose crud, reassembled, and VIOLA,the hammers and triggers are perfectly reasonable for CAS use.  And here I thought I was gonna be fabricating springs and all that rot.

I love it when things turn out easier than expected   :)

Ho AJ,

Rite here, I'm gonna reccommend you give our own Marshall's Gun Butter a try.  The precision applicator puts it exactly where ya want and easily reaches into the innards of yer piece.  The stuff is very slick and really hangs onto metal.  I've not found a better precision application product for shootn' irons.

Enjoy that fine old scattergun.
