FLORIDA (On the matter of NCOWS)
« on: March 08, 2006, 11:53:33 AM »
On the ...whats your interest poll ?

River City John said...

"Now, it appears that the state of Florida has the highest percentage of NCOWS wannabes that any other state, territory or protectorate.

Good grief, people! It only takes three to begin a posse. And nowhere is it written that you have to be within spitting distance.
I think there will be a Florida Posse before too long. And about dang time, too!"

So who is out there , is there enough to start a Possi ?

I've only got one revolver at the moment, funds are slow but growing so I can get the rest of the toys then I've got to get to work on the outfit which won't be to bad, gun rig and boots will be the biggest hit.  But I'm all in I'll have to drive to Orlando to shoot w3g but once a month is worth the trip.  I live in Tampa by the way.

As regards boots, I skipped the whole bit of expensive "old-style" boots and went with a pair of CW brogans on sale. I was able to get a pair that allowed me to insert the needed supports, thereby saving me lots more money. I happened to have NCOWS legal leather already so was able to dodge that cost for myself but we still need to properly outfit my buddy shooter. Thrift stores have been slowly offering up suitable old-style clothes at a few bucks each -- some need alterations to make them suitable for NCOWS, fortunately, my buddy shooter is a professional taylor.

We have also gone to Working Cowboy class to avoid some of the cost and other problems (to us) with the two revolvers, one rifle, one shotgun classes.

I'm game ( no wait guys with guns ... not game  ;) )

I suggest we get together, maybe one day or evening (maybe a sit down dinner ) somewhere
to discuss this.

I'm South of Orlando in St. Cloud, Kissimmee's a good old cow town. (I know where to get a good steak there)

I'm a Tampa native and as many times as I've been to Daytona, Disney and Orlando I've never been to the city of Kissimee.  I'm more than willing to drive over for a good steak, potatoe and glass of iced sweet tea.  Does NCOWS have room for beginners?  I've never even shot SASS yet, since I just started collecting gear.  Not new to shooting just have never competed before.

The Kissemmee Steak house is the best.... ( about 50 Min drive time from I-75 over tampa way, non rush hour.)

I'd be a noob too (to NCOWS) but not CAS or reenacting by along shot.

Lets see if more will join us for dinner then look for a time/date.

Thanks Joss

and thanks Will...

couple of questions though..

To apply for a Charter:
submit a letter of application including a statement of purpose... OK

a copy of the Posse’s organizational By-Laws, ... is there and example of these somewhere ?

a list of Posse members (indicating which of them are NCOWS members and/or are applying for NCOWS membership ... OK

include new membership applications and fees),  no problem

a proposed schedule of events to be sanctioned by NCOWS (if any),  ... that will be down the road

the name of the Posse’s Territorial Representative... What are the qualifications for and the responsibilities of this Person ?

If we can get enough pards to pull this together....w'll get her done !

has stepped up...

I had a list of Members around the State and contact e-mails , I sent out the idea but got no response, none, Nada.
I have since lost that list due to a hard drive crash.

I'm here, or PM me if there is any interest....in a Florida NCOW Posse'

Major,

I am new to this but add me to your Florida list.

It will be a little while before I am actually able to start shooting but I intend to follow NCOWS guidelines when it comes to gear, clothing, etc.
