OK.  What's the latest word on the GAF Medal?  We still looking or have we found a vender?
Listen!  Do you hear that?  The roar of Cannons and the screams of the dying.  Ahh!  Music to my ears.

We've found a couple of vendors (and of course we could always go back to Starpacker) Right now the main thing we're waiting to make sure we have all the copyright issues resolved before we proceed. Below is a photo of the prototype one of the vendors we're looking at produced for us. He hasn't produced a prototype of the top part yet so I subtituted a GAR pin top. The ribbon is on backwards (my error). One of the advantages this vendor could offer would be that he would engrave the back if the buyer wished.

When last I talked with the General about the copyright issues, he indicated that they should all be resolved soon. The vendor is more or less ready to go and is currently producing a hat insignia very similar to the GAR hat wreath. He should have the first run of them ready to be sold at the Dept. of the Missouri shoot 4-13-7.

Good.  I hope you reserve on for me as I will be there.  I think you should have recieved my application already.

Good news and bad news.

The good news is the paperwork was submitted several months ago. According to their website, we should have had an answer in about 3 months.

Bad news.  After about 3 months I got a letter which I thought was going to be the issue of the copyright.  Turns out they wanted more money to process the order - they'd raised the rates but hadn't posted it on their website or on the forms.

More bad news - I met someone who works at the patent office and she said it could take years before we hear back.  They have a huge backlog.

Good news - my wife, a copyright lawyer, says we can still go ahead with the medal since it is unique to our organization and we created it.

Thank you for that update, General!

May we assume the net result is that the medals will be going ahead, and that those of us lacking a proper GAF Medal will soon be able to get their very own?!?!   ???   ;D

So will there be medals for sale at the Department of the Missouri Muster?  A simple yes or no will suffice..... ;)

The simple answer about the medal is "no".
But there needs to be more explaination.
First I apologize. I re-read my earlier post and realized it may have been confusing. The hat wreath will be ready at the MO shoot, not the medal.  We have the mould for the star of the medal ready but not for the hanger. There just isn't time enough to get a run of both done before the 14th.

and yes, your registration was waiting for me when I got home from Lincoln yesterday.

Once again, into the breech!  The last time this was addressed was in April/May of this year.  Are we going to be able to purchase one of these medals prior to the beginning of 2008?

Grapeshot-

The GAF now owns the copyright to the Medal so we are able to reproduce it without being prosecuted by the previous manufacturer.

Pitspitr has been working with someone he knows to reproduce the medal at more reasonable rates than what we had previously (same guy who is producing the other GAF insignia I believe).  Unfortunately, Pitspitr didn't have a medal to provide him for the molds.  Mustang Gregg has offered his up.  We should be seeing something coming out soon.
