would someone please run through how one solders a sight to a gun? i tried and tried and the solder kept running off. finally gave it to a gunsmith and asked him to braze it (front sight on a walker). he said he would solder it on and he did! what am i missing? thanks in advance, geo.

I don't know too much about it but I think the gunsmith used silver solder.

The one sight I've soldered was on a Pietta NM Remington. I'd bobbed the barrel back to about 4" and re-used the original sight.

1) drilled the hole
2) fluxed
3) melted/flowed solder into the hole
4) heated the front sight (held in pliers) with torch
5) placed sight into hole

maybe something in this technique would have helped.
